Hi Sarah, it’s okay if we call you Sarah, isn’t it?

Oh yes, I doubt anyone will put two and two together from reading this, but if they do, they have their own naughty little secret, too.

Quite so. Thank you for letting us in on your own little bit of naughtiness, but before we go on, give us a bit of background on yourself.

Well, I am now nearer 50 than 40, and hope that I am wearing well. Apart from when I was at home when the children were small, I have worked both full-time and part-time as a legal secretary. I must be honest, because of my husband's substantial income, I really didn’t have to work for financial reasons. I enjoyed it though, and it got me out of the house and interacting with people I would not normally be with. Many of my friends who were in similar privilege financial situations seem to while away their days meeting up for lunches, playing golf or shopping. My married life was dull, and even though not the most passionate, we were happy enough.

Was there something missing from your marriage that made you want to look over the fence to see what alternatives there were?

I wouldn’t say it was a cold marriage, no, it was more of a companionship. Certainly, as far as sex goes, that hadn’t featured for a lot of years. I knew Malcolm had had a few affairs with secretaries and PAs in his business. To be honest, if they were happy to satisfy his urges, it saved me a job.

So, would you say that your libido was low or just that you had other things in your life?

A bit of both, I suppose. I was rushing around working part time and trying to organise three kids, so I had little time or energy for anything else.

I think a lot of us can identify with that predicament. So, when did this all suddenly change?

It was a just over a year ago. The two eldest children were away at university and my youngest was 18. We seemed to be amid the 18th birthday party season as all his friends, male and female, seem to have their birthdays all at once. It ended up being a bit of a treadmill for us parents, either ferrying teenagers to and fro or amid organising our own birthday parties for our own children. They were all pretty grand affairs, to be honest. With a circle of people with considerable disposable income, the parties parents laid on led to competition. This was not a glass of Prosecco and a sausage roll. It was hiring an entire hotel or for those with a bit of land, a marquee with all the trimmings. I am glad that I had two boys and only one girl because the number of ballgowns our daughter got through during her 18th birthday party season was eye watering. It was all right for the boys as it was always black tie, a dinner jacket.
